Featured Pieces: The 1795 Half Dime: A Founding Piece of American Currency
This historically significant coin is a 1795 Half Dime from the U.S. Philadelphia Mint, struck shortly after the facility first opened its doors in 1793. As one of our nation’s very first silver coins, it represents the literal dawn of the American monetary system.
Its rarity cannot be overstated: of the original mintage, only 1,750 are currently known to still exist. Owning or viewing such a piece offers a rare, direct connection to the earliest days of the Republic and the foundational history of the United States Mint.
